Manga Entertainment UK have today announced, through their social media channels, that they will be releasing Dragon Ball Z Kai on both DVD and Blu-ray later this year; with the first instalment being released on the 3rd August 2015.

For those unaware Dragon Ball Z Kai is the ‘directors cut’ version of the popular anime series; whereby not only was the footage re-mastered by the original Japanese Animation Studio but filler content, such as the Garlic Jnr Saga, was removed. Other tweaks included new audio being re-recorded, both in English and Japanese, as well as some scenes being re-drawn with new character artwork.

In retrospect its the same version of Dragon Ball Z that KIX TV have been broadcasting for the past few years; the difference being is that the one being released by Manga UK will have all of the blood, swearing and decapitation intact – as well as the option to change between English and Japanese audio and more importantly being in its original 4:3 aspect ratio – so its a worthwhile addition to your collection.

Manga Entertainment UK will be releasing Dragon Ball Z Kai in ‘Season’ formats, which should contain 26 episodes per set. The first season, which spans the entire Sayian Saga, will be released on the 3rd August 2015 where as the second season, which spans the entire Namek and Frieza Saya, will be released on the 8th September 2015. Details on the other two seasons will be confirmed at a later date.

Will the version shown on kix (child friendly edited version) be released for UK dvd.

    • Scott says:

Unfortunately not; The version shown on Kix was created entirely for TV Broadcast (i believe it was edited by FUNimation in parntership with Nicktoons for broadcast on Nicktoons).
