Manga Entertainment UK Issues Statement Relating to Removal of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 1

What should have been a simple release for Manga Entertainment UK has turned into another strange situation; as due to unforeseen circumstances the UK anime publisher-come-distributor have had to remove Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 1 from retailers as well as remove any traces of the product from their own social channels.

It’s not publicly known why Manga Entertainment UK were forced to do this, but it does mean that Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 1 has been removed from sale and – for the time being at least – is no longer a planned product. Naturally Manga Entertainment UK are working with relevant companies to return everything to normal; but for the time being they have issued this statement.

Manga Entertainment would like to apologise for the frustration and concern surrounding the recent de-listing of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Part One from our webshop & partner retailers.

Shortly after the product’s release, we were instructed to remove the product & all promotional material from our site & social media channels. We understand the confusion caused and would like to assure customers that we are working with Funimation and hope to have the title back available as soon as possible.

Following on from this statement Jerome Mazandarani, Managing Director of Manga Entertainment UK, issued his own thoughts as well as thanking fans who supported the product.

“I’d like to reassure our customers that everyone here at Manga UK is working hard to bring Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Part One back online as quickly as possible. Thank you again for your understanding and your support of this license.”

Manga Entertainment UK had previously been heavily promoting the release of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card with website articles, social media advertising as well as a cover feature in an issue of NEO Magazine.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 1 was originally released on the 11th February 2019 and had been well received by fans of Cardcaptor Sakura, as well as CLAMP products in general; however shortly after the release listings began disappearing from retailers (with the exception of Amazon) and then traces of the product on Manga Entertainment UK’s website and social channels were removed. It’s worth noting that the product itself is perfectly fine (you can read our review here) and that it seems a ‘higher power’ is involved with this entire situation.

For the time being Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 1 is no longer available to purchase and will continue to be so until the issue is resolved. Additionally it also means that Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Part 2, which had not received an expected release date but was expected to be relesed later this year, will no longer be released. Hopefully Manga Entertainment UK will be able to resolve this issue and move forward with continuing to release the product on Blu-Ray.
