Unboxing: Black Lagoon – Season 1 & Season 2 (Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack) [USA]

As many Blu-ray fans will know Black Lagoon has been available for awhile within the UK, but several months ago the series was released within America by FUNimation, this time as a Combo Pack sporting both Blu-ray and DVD versions of the series, so I’ve decided to “dive in” unbox it and see what the difference is.

It’s amazing how different the releases are, the UK version had 2 Blu-ray sets, each with 12 episodes and each with 2 Blu-ray Discs, so that’s 4 Blu-ray discs total for 24 episodes and 2.0 Stereo sound. However this ‘Complete Series’ collection by FUNimation contains the same amount of episodes, improved 5.1 audio and extra features, yet it only uses 3 Blu-ray discs. Strangely enough the picture quality on the US release looks better than the UK version, despite featuring more content.

The price point is another major difference, each KAZE UK Released Blu-ray set is around £27 each (so that’s around £54 for both), however the American version is currently around $35 (equates to £21) which is considerably cheaper than the UK release. Price is not the only factor though, as this US version includes a remixed 5.1 Surround Sound English Audio track and a variety of extra features, one of which includes a behind-the-scenes look at the dubbing process for the series.

Of course there is a downside to this US Release, and that is its Region Locked, meaning it will only work on Region A Blu-ray Players and Region 1 DVD Players, however if that isn’t an issue then i’d highly recommend this American release over the UK Versions which are now available.

Either way slight informative rant aside here is our unboxing video for Black Lagoon: The Complete Series – Season 1 & Season 2 (Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack) which is now available within America.
