Sonic Mania Opening Animation & Launch Trailer is Nothing But Retro Goodness

Sonic Mania, the 2D Sprite based platform from Christian Whitehead and SEGA, comes to the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One as a Digital Download tomorrow (15th August 2017) and to celebrate the publisher have not only released a launch trailer but the games opening animation.

For starters the opening animation, of which uses a similar design style to the Sonic CD animation, sees Sonic, Tails and Knuckles leaving the elevator – the same elevator seen within one of the earlier announcement trailers – as they enter the hub world that extends to the various game worlds. The opening animation is ‘superb’ and also has a catchy soundtrack; but alas that is part of the charm of Sonic games – the amazing soundtrack.

The second video meanwhile is the games official launch trailer which gives a rundown of the main gameplay features of Sonic Mania; such as reimagined classic levels, new boss fights and competitive gameplay modes. This launch trailer also features segments of the opening animation seen above.

Sonic Mania will be available as a digital download for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on the 15th August 2017. The PC version meanwhile will be available from the 29th August 2017. A Collectors Edition, featuring the game in digital form along with a statue of Sonic the Hedgehog, will also be available.
