MVM Entertainment’s UK Blu-Ray Release of My Girlfriend is a Shobitch Cut by BBFC

It has been confirmed, via a report on Anime UK News, that MVM Entertainment’s upcoming UK Blu-Ray release of My Girlfriend is a Shobitch has been cut by the BBFC due to scenes that portray a child in a sexualised context in the third episode of the series.

The removed scenes, which last around 2 minutes and 50 seconds, take place in the third episode of the series and sees multiple flashbacks of Kosaka as a toddler in which Kosaka’s mother provides ‘questionable’ commentary as well as the indicate that Kosaka was shown various forms of pornographic material at a young age. While the scenes removed do not show any nudity, it does have ‘questionable’ commentary and implied sex references throughout. As mentioned in the report on Anime UK News, the cut was made in order to comply with BBFC guidelines, policy, and the Video Recordings Act 1984.

We also compared our UK review sample discs with a copy of the US Blu-Ray release and can confirm that the scenes were missing from the UK review discs, but fortunately they are done so in a way that does not disrupt the overall flow of the episode. It’s also worth noting that no additional cuts were made to the series, and overall it has been rated 18 for strong sexual references, as listed on the BBFC website.

The UK Blu-Ray release of My Girlfriend is a Shobitch is planned to release on Blu-Ray from 20th Septemeber 2021 within the UK.
