Anime Limited Announces Screen Anime Closure and New Anime (Un)limited Membership for AllTheAnime Shop

In some rather unexpected, and unusual news, Anime Limited have today announced that the Screen Anime streaming service, a service which saw a selection of films and a TV series being made available to stream on a monthly basis, will be discontinued this month on the 25th May 2021. In addition a new membership service for the AllTheAnime Shop, known as Anime (Un)limited will be introduced to replicate the benefits offered within the streaming service.

What does this mean exactly? It means from the 25th May 2021 the Screen Anime platform will no longer be accessible and neither will the benefits, such as a 10% discount on the AllTheAnime Shop, be offered. As a quick reminder Screen Anime started a year ago and allowed Anime Limited to offer fans access to a catalogue of digital films that changed every month in a ‘festival’ fashion. Although the selection was limited it did allow fans to try new films while during the course of the UK lockdown.

One year ago today, Anime Limited announced the curated online film festival Screen Anime to bring together passionate communities in the UK and Ireland around the finest in animation, a quick and thoughtful response to the shutdown of cinemas and impacted opportunities for celebrating the arts necessitated by the global pandemic.

As part of Anime Limited’s dedication to sharing the magic of film on the big screen, the Screen Anime service will be retiring at the end of this month. If you would like to sign up to catch the final selection of films, including Tokyo Ghoul ‘S’ and Belladonna of Sadness, Screen Anime will continue to allow new members through 25th of May.

The staff of Anime Limited want to express their deep gratitude for the support that so many fans have given Screen Anime this last year and for participating in a community that has been a welcome respite to many during lockdown.

With the closure of Screen Anime it does mean that subscribers will miss out on benefits, such as a 10% discount on the AllTheAnime store, and to compensate Anime Limited will today offer a new membership service that will replicate these benefits for just £17.99 a year.

As part of this membership subscribers will receive:

  • 10% off all store purchases
  • Special offers at conventions starting in 2022
  • Magazine shipped to home
  • Exclusive deals on the store throughout the year *

* Special offers may not be redeemable alongside the 10% store purchases depending on type of offer.

In retrospect this subscription is similar to GAME’s “Reward Elite” service, whereby customers who pay for the additional benefit will receive additional benefits in return (such as increased reward points on purchase, exclusive discounts etc). The difference here however is that unused benefits will not be refunded, which is the case with GAME’s Reward Elite service. Potentially questionable subscription service platforms aside, as you literally are paying upfront for the privilege of a future discount, subscribers will receive unique bonuses and exclusive opportunities that non-subscribers will not receive.

Finally, in partnership with this news Anime Limited have also reminded us that they have partnered with Crunchyroll to offer movies as part of its “Crunchyroll Movies at Home” event. In this case films licensed by Anime Limited in the UK will be streamed via Crunchyroll with a different film each month. Further details relating to this event can be found here.
