Street Fighter V Season Five Content Announced

Earlier this week Capcom unveiled details for the fifth season of content for Street Fighter V during a video presentation and with it confirming four new characters, a selection of additional stages and new balance tweaks that will help keep fans coming back for more.

Dubbed the ‘Summer Update’ new content will be released starting from Winter 2021, with Dan – the iconic punching bag and training instructor – being the first new fighter to the rosta, and continuing into Summer 2021 with characters such as Rose, Oro and Akira. Naturally the spotlight is on Akira who is a cross-cover character from Capcom’s other fighting game franchise Rival Schools which, as some Capcom fans might know, is in the same universe as Street Fighter and is a rival of sorts to Sakura. The new characters, and stages, are currently in development but details released so far can be found below.

New Characters:

A mainstay from the Street Fighter Alpha series and last appearing in Street Fighter IV, Dan Hibiki will be bringing his (over) confidence and iconic “Taunt” to Street Fighter V. A training partner of Ryu and Ken, Dan considers himself well-equipped to “school” other players with his unique Saikyo-ryu (“Strongest Style”) fighting style. Release timing: Winter 2020

Rose is a fortune telling fan-favorite character who also previously starred in the Alpha series and Street Fighter IV. Using her tarot cards, Rose will arrive armed with a variety of unique special moves and plans to channel all of her Soul Power energy into Street Fighter V. Release timing: Spring 2021

Last appearing in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Oro is an ancient martial arts master who exists as an immortal hermit. He restricts one of his arms from use in order to give his opponents an advantage, but that won’t stop Oro from being one of the most well-trained and powerful fighters in Street Fighter V. Release timing: Summer 2021

First introduced in Capcom’s 1997 fighting game Rival Schools: United by Fate, Akira Kazama is preparing to make her Street Fighter debut. As an acquaintance of Sakura, Akira has previous ties to the Street Fighter universe and is gearing up to bring her biker style look and clever gimmicks to Street Fighter V. Release timing: Summer 2021

Final Character (TBA):
Details are To Be Announced. Release timing: Fall 2021

New Stages:

In addition to these five new characters coming to Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, over 30 new costumes and four new stages are also being planned, including a Rose stage (Spring 2021), Akira stage (Summer 2021) and two new Capcom Pro Tour stages arriving in Winter 2020 and Fall 2021.

New Battle Mechanics:

A new battle mechanic and new battle balance adjustments will be available in Winter 2020 as free updates to all players, adding even more gameplay enhancements and depth to the game’s combat system.

Further details will be revealed in due course, but for the time being Street Fighter V – or Street Fighter V: Champion Edition – is now available for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC and, for a limited time, is available with a discount on respective digital storefronts.
