STUDIOCANAL Begins When Marine Was There Blu-ray Replacement Scheme

Ever since the launch of STUDIOCANAL’s UK Blu-ray release of When Marine was There we have heard reports that the disc was defective; with owners reporting that the Blu-ray disc either struggled to play on their player or froze during playback and in the event that it did play the Blu-ray player would buzz incredibly loud as if it was overheating from reading the disc. The Boy and the Beast To Be Released on DVD and Blu-ray by Studiocanal

The Boy and His Beast

In a surprising turn of events Mamoru Hosoda’s charming tale ‘The Boy and the Beast’ may be receiving a UK release by STUDIOCANAL rather than other Anime Distributors such as MangaUK or Anime Limited; that is if the listing found on Amazon UK is anything to go by.

According to the product listing, which was posted-up on UK Anime Network yesterday, The Boy and the Beast will be released on the 5th September 2016 on both DVD and Blu-ray. If this listing, and release date, is correct then it means that The Boy and the Beast won’t be getting a cinematic release or, if it does, then it will be very limited to a handful of Picturehouse cinemas. After a few short months at the cinema Isao Takahata’s cinematic masterpiece The Tale of The Princess Kaguya will be coming to home video on the 13th July 2015; that is according to pre-order listings on various online retailers.

The film, which sees a bamboo cutter raising a young child like royalty, will be released in three different variations; a stand-a-lone DVD release, which will contain the film and some basic bonus materials, a Blu-ray and DVD Combi pack release, which will contain the film in high definition with some additional bonus materials, and a Collectors Edition Combi Pack, which combines both formats in a carded digipack design. Spirited Away and Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray Sets Spotted on Amazon UK

1083_019812B.jpgIf you are currently waiting for the next ‘high definition’ Studio Ghibli film to add to your collection then prepare to get excited; as Amazon UK have recently listed not one but two very special Blu-ray sets.

First up is the long overdue Blu-ray release of Spirited Away, a film which is one of my personal favourites, which is currently priced at £24.99 and is scheduled for release on the 3rd November 2014. The second title to be released is actually a Hayao Miyazaki box set; a set celebrating the works of Hayao Mizyazaki’s by containing a variety of Studio Ghibli films that he has worked on; this particular set comes with a listing price of £249.99, which is far more expensive than any other anime release i’ve seen, and will also be released on the 3rd November 2014.

Details are scarce for both releases but judging from UK Anime Network they assume that the Hayao Miyazaki set will be ‘identical’ to the one released in Japan several months ago; whereby the set would contain all of the films that Miyazaki has been involved with as well as a variety of short films and bonus content.

Eitherway both Spirited Away and the Hayao Miyazaki sets are coming to the UK on Blu-ray and will be distributed by STUDIOCANAL; the current UK distributor for Studio Ghibli films, on the 3rd November 2014.
