ITV have today announced that they have formed a partnership with Anime Limited that will see the UK distributor bring a wide variety of their licensed anime titles, including Escaflowne, Lupin III Part 6, Megalobox, and Cowboy Bebop, to a brand new AVOD/SVOD service called ITVX.
ITVX, which is a recently announced on-demand streaming service operated by ITV, will allow viewers to watch a catalog of shows (as well as exclusive content) and live ITV channels through the internet. Additionally ITVX will launch later this year as both an ad-based video on demand (AVOD) and subscription based video on demand (SVOD) platform allowing viewers to choose between traditional ad viewing and netflix-style service.
ITX Features:
- Exclusive new series launching online every week, including Spy Among Friends
- The nation’s biggest events streamed live
- An ever-changing library of blockbuster movies
- Exclusive themed channels
- Thousands of box sets
- PLUS an upgrade option to a premium ad-free subscription tier, with access to partner content and BritBox – all in one place, in a UK first
The partnership with Anime Limited meanwhile means that viewers of the ITVX platform will be able to watch a wide variety of shows and allows newcomers to experience anime for the first time, as Andrew Partridge, president and CEO of Anime Ltd, explains:
“We could not be more pleased than to team up with ITV in our efforts to share world-class Japanese animation with new audiences and lifelong fans across the United Kingdom. With a diverse lineup of anime from some of the most impressive minds in television and film, ITVX promises to be an essential destination for anyone interested in the medium.”
We suspect that Anime Limited’s inclusion in ITVX will be classed as a “themed channel” – similar to PlutoTV’s anime channel – but with series available to watch on demand rather than through a broadcasting stream. It’s also worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time that Anime Limited have partnered with a UK TV network, as a few years back the distributor partnered with Channel4 to bring anime to its All4 platform and saw shows such as Cardcaptor Sakura, Persona 5: The Animation and Cowboy Bebop available to Stream.
