Crunchyroll (FUNimation UK) Announces New Licenses, Re-Releases and Complete Series Sets for UK Q3 2022 Blu-Ray & DVD Release

Crunchyroll, preivously known as FUNimation UK and formally known as Manga UK, have recently announced a wide, but limited, selection of anime titles that will be making their way to UK audiences during the third quarter of this year.

New licenses come in the form of DVD, Blu-ray and Limited Edition releases of shows such as Combatants Will Be Dispatched and Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to A Starter Town while long-out-of-print titles such as Ben-To and Freezing will be coming back (rather oddly) in DVD format. Those wishing to own complete series releases of some older titles, such as Radiant and Darling in the Franxx, will also be pleased.

New Titles:

  • Combatants Will Be Dispatched (Blu-Ray, Limited Edition Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • My Hero Academia World Heroes Mission (Blu-ray, Steelbook Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • My Hero Academia Movie Collection (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to A Starter Town (Blu-Ray, Limited Edition Blu-Ray, DVD)

Re-Releases:

  • Ben-To (DVD)
  • Cat Planet Cuties (DVD)
  • Freezing (DVD)
  • Evangelion 1.11 (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Evangelion 2.22 (Blu-Ray, DVD)

Complete Series:

  • Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Darling in the Franxx (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Fariy Gone (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • Fire Force – Season 1 (DVD)
  • Radiant – Season 1 (Blu-Ray, DVD)
  • The Ancient Magus Bride (Blu-Ray, DVD)

Continued Series:

  • One Piece – Collection 28 (DVD)
  • One Piece – Collection 29 (DVD)

It’s a rather mixed bag of titles, and release formats; especially with older titles such as Cat Planet Cuties, Ben-To and Freezing receiving DVD re-prints when the same titles are available on Blu-Ray (and Region B format no less) in the United States and Australia.

More importantly; titles that were previously released on Blu-Ray only are now being re-released on DVD and all of the new titles will be made available on both DVD and Blu-Ray. This is a big contrast compared to last year when titles were mostly being released on Blu-Ray only.

So, what does this do to the release schedule? Well let’s take a look:

4th July 2022:

  • Ben-To
  • Cat Planet Cuties
  • Freezing
  • The Ancient Magus Bride

18th July 2022:

  • Evangelion 1.11
  • Evangelion 2.22

15th August 2022:

  • One Piece – Collection 28

29th August 2022:

  • Darling in the Franxx
  • Fairy Gone
  • Fire Force – Season 1
  • Radiant – Season 1

5th September 2022:

  • Combatants Will Be Dispatched

19th September 2022:

  • Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S

26th September 2022:

  • My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission
  • My Hero Academia Movie Collection
  • Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to A Starter Town
  • One Piece – Collection 29

All of the dates listed above are tentative and are subject to change without notice.

The list of titles above also marks the first time, since the Crunchyroll restructure of the entire company globally (and in the UK), that releases have been announced for the UK. While there is variety, and offers some of last years shows to UK audiences, it is certainly not an expansive list considering the wide variety of shows available in US and Australian markets. Either way, it will be interesting to see what this new era of UK Crunchyroll (FUNimation) has to offer.
