NHK World Broadcasts and Streams Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san Anime in the UK

NHK World, which is the international service of Japan’s public media organization NHK and available to view on compatible satellite services in the UK, are offering the anime Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san to stream on it’s video on demand platform with English subtitles as well as are broadcasting episodes on its TV channel in the UK.

Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san, otherwise known as Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House, was originally a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Aiko Koyama that focuses on a teenage girl working as a cook in a geisha lodge. This anime adaptation, which has been animated by J.C. Staff, is being broadcast on NHK World and currently episode one is available to Stream on NHK World’s OnDemand platform.

Synopsis: Kiyo works at the Maiko House as the live-in cook. She sees her childhood friend Sumire in town one day, accompanying older maiko. Back at the House kitchen, Sumire tells Kiyo how hard she is working towards her goal of becoming one, too. Sumire is overjoyed to learn that she will debut as a maiko later that evening. She runs straight to Kiyo to share her news, but what will she think?

According to details online a second episode is also planned to be broadcast next week, on the 25th March 2021, and TV listings for NHK World suggest that an episode of the series will be available throughout the day at different times. It’s not known whether this broadcast will be the second episode or a repeat of the first, but in the meantime Maiko-san Chi No Makanai-San – Chapter 1 is now available to stream on NHK World’s OnDemand platform until the 25th February 2022. It’s not currently known whether the second Chapter will be available (or broadcast on its worldwide service)
