Santa Company: Manatsu no Merry Christmas to be Streamed on MyAnimeList this January

An animated film, known Santa Company: Manatsu no Merry Christmas, created to help combat the effect of Marine waste and to increase awareness of its dangers will be streamed worldwide on the 29th Janaury 2021 via MyAnimeList (MAL).

Produced in partnership with the Umi no Magnet Education Committee in Japan this anime film will tackle the issue of marine waste as part of an initiative to confront social issues through manga, anime, games, and the Internet. As described this initiative is part of CHANGE FOR THE BLUE, a project by the Nippon Foundation’s Umi to Nippon Project, which seeks to create a new marine waste reduction model through collaborations between industry, government, academia, and the private sector, and to spread this model both in Japan and overseas in order to create a movement to raise awareness in society that no further waste should be discarded into the ocean.

This thirty minute long feature, which was produced under the project name Anime de Umigomi Zero Project, is in response to an independent survey conducted in Japan that saw 91% say “Yes” to viewing informative, and educative, material in anime and manga form, and continues the trend of informing media consumers of the impacts of marine waste in Japan and how to combat it. The previous short-film was shown in 2019 across Japanese cinemas while this latest film will be shown online via MyAnimeList as well as in cinemas if it is safe to do so.

The world premiere will take place on Friday 29th January 2021 at 8pm Japanese Standard Time on MyAnimeList and is expected to be shown worldwide. Local streaming details are expected to be published onto MyAnimeList closer to broadcast. Although ‘worldwide’ has been mentioned relevant timing for UK and Europe were not provided.
