Those looking forward to Anime Limited’s upcoming Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray release of Violet Evergarden, which was due for release on the 11th January 2021, will have to wait a little bit longer, as the distributor have announced pans to postpone the set until better quality masters have been produced.
Although Anime Limited, otherwise known as All The Anime, have not yet made a formal public announcement about this delay on their website, or via social media, they have informed customers who pre-ordered the product directly from the AllTheAnime Store. Shortly after these emails were sent out Anime Limited’s “El Presidente” reached out through a community platform to inform fans on what was happening (as pointed out by NormanicGrav on Twitter)
So, why has the release been postponed? Concerns were were raised with the overall picture quality of the disc masters being used, especially when compared to the Japanese version of the product. As such Anime Limited are looking into reauthoring the discs with a specialist authoring house in hopes of mastering a better quality product compared to the original disc masters they were provided. If successful then new masters will be produced and the set will be released, but until then the set has been postponed.
Currently there isn’t an ‘ETA’ of when they expect this be done, even more so with the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and Brexit in the UK, but it is expected Anime Limited will share information once available. It’s not the first time that Anime Limited produced sets have encountered visual abnormalities, with Re:Zero, Durarara!!! , Escaflowne and Gurren Lagann, being prime examples, but much like with Gundam Seed HD Edition they want to ensure the release of the product is correct and the best it can be without having to offer confusing replacement schemes, so the product is being postponed (delayed) until further notice.
