Neptunia Virtual Stars to be a Subtitled Only Release in 2021

Publisher Idea Factory International have today confirmed on social media that the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Windows PC (Steam) release of Neptunia Virtual Stars will be subtitled only due to the games inclusion of Japanese Vtubers and the large number of voiced dialogue.

Previous Neptunia titles have been dual-language, with voiced lines being available in English and Japanese audio, but for Neptunia Virtual Stars it will be a subtitled only game. It’s worth noting that this ‘subtitled only’ format only applies to Neptunia Virtual Stars and that Idea Factory International plan to return to normal (with both English and Japanese voice over options) on future titles.

We would like to let fans know that we are NOT stopping ENG voice recording for future titles. This was a difficult decision, but Vtuber licensing + the high volume of voice lines for Neptunia Virtual Stars meant a JP-only dub was our best option. Thank you for understanding!

We always knew that Neptunia Virtual Stars was going to be ambitious localisation project, especially as it has such a heavy focus on the current virtual youtuber trend that is sweeping the globe and includes some popular Vubters in Japan in the game, and it seems this, combined with a large number of voiced dialogue scenes, will cause the game to miss out on an English voice over option.

Neptunia Virtual Stars is planned for a PlayStation 4 and Windows PC (via Steam) release in 2021 with additional details to be announced. Further information can be found on the official website.
