Anime Limited Delays Gundam Seed HD Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray Until 2021

Anime Limited have recently taken to social media, and directly via e-mail as a customer update to those who ordered online via the AllTheAnime Store, that the upcoming Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray release of Gundam Seed HD has been delayed until 2021 due to a production issue with the discs for the High Definition version of the series. The set was originally due to be released on the 7th December 2020.

The issue is that the High Definition version of the series had been authored using the Japanese TV Broadcast assets rather than the improved Japanese Blu-Ray assets, which meant that the overall quality of both the animation and presentation is lower than originally intended and in turn offers a slightly alternative product. Surprisingly this mistake was only discovered when customers in North America began to receive the product. It was later explained that Nozomi Entertainment, the distributor for recent Gundam Blu-Ray releases in the US and author of the discs in US and UK, had been provided incorrect materials by SUNRISE and that they would be working closely with SUNRISE to reauthor and release the product with the intended materials.

As a result of this Anime Limited, who would have been using Nozomi Entertainment’s disc masters for the UK release, have delayed production on the UK Blu-Ray release of Gundam Seed HD and will wait until newly produced discs have been mastered. It is not known when mastered discs will be produced, but considering the severity of the situation, such as the possibility of the English Audio tracks being resynced/encoded to the Japanese Blu-ray materials for each episode, it means the delay could be a lengthy one. For the time being a 2021 release year has been announced.

Ever since Gundam Seed HD was announced for US release by Nozomi Entertainment the distributor have been providing regular updates and comparison videos between the original series and the newly improved HD master, so it is surprising to see that it was not discovered sooner. Although the UK Ultimate Edition release of Gundam Seed HD has been delayed until 2021 the US release remains available to purchase on Rightstuf and will continue to be sold to those who wish to purchase it. Those who do purchase the product will also be able to claim replacement discs for the ‘correct’ version of the series, of which will be send once the correct version has been produced.

In the meantime the UK Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray release of Gundam Seed HD has been delayed until 2021 and further updates will be provided by Anime Limited in due course.
