PQube Games to publish Earth Defense Force 5 Physically on PlayStation 4 in September

In a rather interesting, but bizarre, announcement publisher PQube Games have recently announced that they will publish D3 Publishers Earth Defense Force 5 physically onto the PlayStation 4 within Europe and North America on the 18th September 2020. What’s so bizarre about this announcement? Well the game originally came out back in 2018 as a digitally only release through the PlayStation Store.

In the past PQube Games localised and published a wide-variety of Earth Defense Force titles, the games which saw you defend cities from all sorts of creatures, but when it came to the fifth instalment D3 Publisher opted to localise and publish the game themselves digitally outside of Japan. Now, several years later, PQube will be acting as publisher-come-distributor for a physical version within North America and Europe. It’s not uncommon for digital-only games to be given physical treatments, but it is uncommon to see a mainline publisher handle it rather than a specialised publisher, such as Limited Run Games. Regardless it is all positive news for fans of the franchise.

Earth Defense Force 5 is available digitally now for the PlayStation 4, and is even currently on sale in the recent PlayStation Store discounts, and will be available physically on the 18th September 2020; but in the meantime you can check-out some gameplay from the game below.
