New Game Plus Expo 2020: NIS America Announcement Summary

New Game Plus Expo 2020 was filled to the brim with new trailers and title licenses, but american based publisher potentially ‘stole the show’ by announcing that they would be releasing the latest instalment of Ys, known as Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, onto the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC  in 2021 and that a sequel to Fallen Legion was also in the works. Another surprise reveal from the publisher was a brand new trailer promoting the trailer of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold IV, which saw Rean in a bit of a difficult spot. Exciting times indeed, and a breakdown of these announcements can be found below.

NEW TITLES:

Fallen Legion: Revenants [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch – 2021]:
In a world covered in miasma, a floating castle is the last refuge for mankind. The earth is scarred with beasts mutated by the plague while Welkin Castle is quarantined from the horrors below. Lucien, a charismatic politician protected in the castle walls, discovers an ancient book where he learns of the Exemplars, weapons that can turn into sentient soldiers. He joins forces with Rowena, a revenant determined to find a way to come back to life to raise her living son, and the two reluctantly make a pact to overthrow the mad tyrant controlling Welkin.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, STEAM – 2021]:
Renowned adventurer Adol “the Red” Christin and his companion Dogi arrive at Balduq, a city annexed by the Romun Empire, only for Adol to be detained before setting foot inside. While imprisoned, he meets a mysterious woman named Aprilis who turns him into a Monstrum, a being with supernatural Gifts and the power to exorcise monsters. Now, Adol must ally with his fellow Monstrums to fend off the fearsome threats emerging from a shadowy dimension called the Grimwald Nox, as well as unravel the mysteries of the Monstrum curse, and the truth behind the unrest within Balduq.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, STEAM – 2020/2021]:
The Erebonian Empire is on the brink of all out war! Taking place shortly after the ending of Trails of Cold Steel III, the heroes of Class VII find themselves against the full force of the Empire in an attempt to stop its path of total domination. Further, the hero of the Erebonian Civil War and Class VII’s instructor, Rean Schwarzer, has gone missing. Now, the students of Class VII, old and new, must unite with heroes from all over the continent to create the only chance the world has to be spared from total destruction.

NEW FOOTAGE SHOW DURING MONTAGE:

Giraffe and Annika [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch – 2020]:
A magical, mystery-filled adventure awaits! When a young girl named Annika awakens from a strange dream, she finds herself stranded on the mysterious “Spica Island” with no memory of how she got there. Upon exploring, she meets a boy named Giraffe, who seems to know her, and is tasked with finding three special star fragments on the island in order to unravel the mysteries of her forgotten memories. While searching for the fragments, Annika meets Lily, the Witch of the Mysterious Forest, who challenges her to a battle! Fortunately, Annika emerges victorious, and uncovers a star fragment. She absorbs the fragment and is suddenly granted remarkable visions. What secrets await this unlikely trio of adventurers on the island of Spica?

MAD RAT DEAD [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch – 2020]:
A rat’s dream has been left unfulfilled before his death…that is, until he gets a second chance at life! Granted the opportunity to redo his last day on Earth, the player must utilize the Rat’s newfound power to pump his heart in time with the music, lest his own time runs out. Mad Rat Dead combines platformer action and rhythm mechanics to have players keep their eyes and ears peeled at all times!

Prinny 1-2 Reloaded [Nintendo Switch – 2020]:
Master Etna demands the ultimate dessert, and it is up to a legion of lowly Prinnies to make it! Jump, slash, and combo your way through different stages of the Netherworld, devastate enemies and bosses with special attacks, and encounter both new and familiar faces in this explosive action adventure from the twisted minds behind the DISGAEA series!

VOID TRRLM // VOID TERRARIUM [PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch – 2020]:
In a world contaminated with toxic fungi, a discarded maintenance robot finds a girl named Toriko on the brink of death among the discarded junk in a scrapyard. After nursing her back to health, it is revealed that she may very well be the last remaining human, and is highly vulnerable to the deadly conditions of the outside world. To ensure her survival, the robot and his newfound friend, a decommissioned AI known as factoryAI, creates a refuge for her within a terrarium. To reinforce the terrarium as well as Toriko’s poor health, the lone robot must venture into the wasteland to gather resources while battling the vagrant machines and mutated creatures that roam there. Along the way, the uncertain future of Toriko’s existence and with her, the entire human race, will slowly come to light…
