BFI Southbank London to Screen Weathering With You in December and Includes Q&A Session with Makoto Shinkai

A listing on the BFI website has revealed that Makoto Shinkai’s latest cinematic film, Weathering With You, will be screened next month, on 10th December 2019, at the BFI Southbank London ahead of its wider-cinematic release next year; and more importantly this special screening will also include a Q&A session with the director himself; Makoto Shinkai.

As listed on the BFI website, and as reported on Anime News Network, this preview event will cost £15 per ticket and will include a screening of the film along with a Q&A session with Makoto Shinkai. Tickets will be available to order from the 12th November 2019 while the event itself will take place on the 10th December 2019 at 6pm. Those attending will not only be given the chance to ‘potentially’ ask the director, Makoto Shinkai, a question but they may also be able to meet him before and/or after the film. The film will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles.

Synopsis: The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

This news ‘may’ come as a surprise, but for those who attended Anime Limited’s Panel at the MCM London Comic Con on 27th October 2019, or those who watched our recording of it, then it further confirms what was teased whereby Jeremy Graves and Andrew Partridge. Upon the Q&A session at the panel both hinted at the possibility of Makoto Shinkai coming to London for a preview event. Details at the time were unconfirmed; but it seems this event has now been confirmed.

Surprisingly Anime Limited have yet to publicly announce this preview event, so some details may still be getting finalised, but at the time of writing the Weathering with You screening with Makoto Shinkai Q&A Session will take place on the 10th December 2019 with tickets available to book from the 12th November 2019. Weathering With You will receive a wider-cinematic release next year starting from 17th January 2020 with additional times, dates and locations yet to be confirmed.
