Evangelion TV Series and Movies Now Available to Stream on Netflix

In case you haven’t heard the news, or haven’t visited social media throughout the day, the long awaited revival of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, and in turn it’s two feature-length-films Death and Re;Birth and The End of Evangelion, have now been made available to Stream on Netflix with a brand new English Dub voice cast and presented in High Definition; which is a first for the franchise outside of Japan and the first HD stream legally worldwide.

It’s big and exciting news indeed, as the film hasn’t received a home video release for over a decade; but it does come with a few disappointments for those hoping to ride the nostalgia train. Firstly Netflix have commissioned an entire new English Dub with different voice actors with none of the notable voice actors returning to reprise their roles; additionally the localisation is a ‘truer’ adaptation of the Japanese script and as such some entertaining dialogue moments have been changed so that they fall more in law with the Japanese audio track. The most disappointing aspect however is that the ending song (Fly Me To The Moon) and its karaoke version have been completely removed from the experience. Reports suggest a licensing issue while others suggest that Netflix did not want to pay the asking price for the license.

Regardless; Neon Genesis Evangelion is available to Stream on Netflix in both English (New Dub) and Japanese with English Subtitles – amongst other available languages – on the platform.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Fifteen years after the Second Impact, Shinji Ikari joins his father’s group NERV as one of several teenage mecha pilots fighting the monstrous Angels.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Re;Birth: Fifteen years after the Second Impact, apathetic teen Shinji joins his father’s group NERV to fight the Angels. But the truth may destroy them all.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion: Seele orders an all-out attack on NERV, aiming to destroy the Evas before Gendo can trigger Third Impact and Instrumentality under his control.

As per usual a valid Netflix subscription is required in order to view content available on the Streaming platform.
