Anime Limited have announced that they have acquired the UK distribution rights to Studio Colorido’s feature-length-animated-film Penguin High-Way and that they will bring to film to UK cinemas later next year.
Produced in conjunction with Fuji Television, and animated by Studio Colorido, Penguin High-Way is based on the novel written by Tomihiko Morimi (Night is Short, Walk on Girl, The Tatami Galaxy and The Eccentric Family) which follows the adventure of Aoyama who tries to unravel the mysterious surrounding the inexplicably appearence of penguins within the city.
Synopsis: Aoyama is a serious 10 year-old boy who records all of his day-to-day experiences in his notebook. One day in May, penguins inexplicably appear in his home town, despite being located a long way from the sea. When Aoyama sees “Big Sis” – a young woman who works at a dentist’s office – drop a soft drink can which inexplicably turns into a penguin, he decides to investigate and resolve the mystery behind these strange events.
Together with his classmates, Aoyama happens upon a strange phenomena which is surely the key to these goings-on. Will their investigation bear fruit, and just how is “Big Sis” linked to these occurrences?
Penguin High-Way will receive it’s Japanese cinema release this August while a UK release will take place at some point during 2019. It’s also expected that Anime Limited have the home-video-rights to this film, so we can also expect a Blu-Ray and DVD release during late 2019 onwards; althought these details have yet to be revealed.
Further information surrounding Penguin High-Way can be found on the official Anime Limited website, but in the meantime it will be some time before we hear any news about this particular film.
