Chrono Trigger Arrives on Steam

Square Enix have today released the iconic JPRG Chrono Trigger, which originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995, onto Steam for the Windows PC.

This Steam release will feature the same gameplay content as the original SNES release but updated visuals, new sound effects, new dungeons and autosave mechanics to make the experience slightly easier for newcomers and different to fans of the older franchise.

Key Features:

  • Two Extra Dungeons – Includes the mysterious ‘Dimensional Vortex’ dungeon and the forgotten ‘Lost Sanctum’ dungeon that first appeared in the DS and mobile releases
  • Updated Graphics and Sound – While keeping the atmosphere of the original, featuring enhanced visuals designed for modern PCs and remastered soundtrack under the supervision of original composer Yasunori Mitsuda
  • Updated Controls – Optimised PC experience that supports both controller and mouse/keyboard configuration
  • New Autosave Feature – Automatically saves while still featuring the original title’s Save Point function
  • CHRONO TRIGGER Limited Edition – Those that purchase the STEAM version until 2nd April 2018 will receive the following digital bonuses for free:
    • An enchanting and specially edited digital song file containing a medley of five songs: ‘Far Off Promise’, ‘Wind Scene’, ‘Battle with Magus’, ‘Corridors of Time’, and ‘Chrono Trigger’
    • Composer Yasunori Mitsuda’s digital liner notes
    • A collection of six stunning PC wallpapers in varying sizes

While the Steam release of Chrono Trigger should be an exciting occasion the reaction on Steam seems to be more than positive; with some users claiming that the game is ‘exactly’ the same as the previous iOS/Android version of the game – with touchscreen icons also being present on screen in this Steam release.

Regardless of the negativity Chrono Trigger is now available to purchase on Steam worldwide. An iOS/Android version of Chrono Tigger is also available and Square Enix will update the game to feature the same content as this PC Steam release.
