Manga Entertainment UK have today surprised Pokemon fans by revealing on social media that the upcoming DVD release of Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You, which is due to be released on the 12th February 2018, will include Pokemon The First Movie as a Bonus DVD with first-print-run releases of the film.
This means Pokemon fans will receive both the original Pokemon film, which was first released in cinemas by WB Kids back in 1999, and the more recent 20th Anniversary film, which received a limited cinematic release late last year, in a single set. It is worth noting that Manga Entertainment UK has previously released Pokemon The First Movie as a ‘Movie Trilogy Collection’ and as a stand-a-lone film on both DVD and Blu-Ray.
Another ‘surprise’ announcement, and from the same social media post no less, comes in the form of confirmation that Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You will also include ‘Hard of Hearing’ subtitles; a rarity for anime related releases and a subtitle form that will provide that ‘added description’ for those who are deaf or of hard of hearing. Subtitles for the ‘Hard of Hearing’ are rarely used on anime releases, with the odd exception of some STUDIOCANAL releases, and is something that has been requested by the anime community; but alas it will be here on this UK DVD release of Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You.
As per the norm both Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You and Pokemon The First Movie will be presented in English Dubbed format only. A Steelbook Blu-Ray Edition is also planned to release later in the year but it is currently unknown if this Steelbook Edition will also include a copy of Pokemon The First Movie as well.
Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You will be available on DVD from the 12th February 2018, with a Steelbook Blu-Ray Edition to follow shortly after; Pokemon The First Movie meanwhile is available as a on Blu-Ray and DVD as part of a stand-a-lone movie and as a movie trilogy collection with Pokemon The Movie 2000 and Pokemon 3: Spell of the Unown.
