Pokémon: Indigo League To Be Released on Blu-ray & DVD Within the UK This October

Following on from the announcement of three ‘classic’ anime films making the leap to Blu-ray later this year UK Anime Distributor Manga Entertainment UK have now announced that they will also be releasing the original Pokemon TV Anime series, known as Pokémon: Indigo League, onto Blu-ray and DVD later this year.

Specifically the set, which will feature all 52 episodes of the original ‘Indigo League’ Story arc in English, is scheduled to be released on the 30th October 2017. The Blu-ray set will feature 5 Discs, and priced at an RRP of £59.99, while the DVD set will feature 8 discs, and priced at an RRP of £39.99.

It’s currently not know which ‘HD Masters’ Manga Entertainment UK will use but we suspect it will be the same HD masters that have been made available for purchase on digital services such as Amazon Instant Video, iTunes and Google Play. Naturally this is a good High Definition remaster but I have previously been told that it’s not as good as the ‘HD Edition’ of the first episode that was broadcast in Japan as part of the franchises anniversary.

Synopsis: It’s Ash Ketchum’s tenth birthday, and he’s ready to do what many 10-year-olds in the Kanto region set out to do—become a Pokémon Trainer! Things don’t go exactly the way he planned when he ends up with a Pikachu instead of a standard first partner Pokémon, and winning Gym badges turns out to be much tougher than he thought. Luckily he’s got former Gym Leaders Brock and Misty at his side, along with a bevy of new Pokémon friends, including Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander.

It’s not known whether Manga Entertainment UK will continue to push individual seasons of Pokemon, much like how VIZ Media in America and Beyond Entertainment in Australia do; but it is a step in the right direction for those who want to own Pokemon physically within the UK. Pokemon: Indigo League will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from the 30th October 2017 with pre-order links expected to appear shortly from retailers.
