MangaUK’s upcoming Magical Index II & Scientific Railgun S Releases To Come in DVD Sized Cases

If you missed the news earlier today on Manga UK’s Instagram account (via Instagram Stores), or on our own Twitter and Instagram feeds, Manga Entertainment UK have revealed that their upcoming Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack Releases of A Certain Magical Index II and A Certain Scientific Railgun S, both of which will be available from the 21st August 2017, will be packaged inside DVD sized cases.

What this means is that these sets, which will feature two DVD sized cases holding the Blu-ray and DVD variations of the show, will not match the previously released A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun sets in either size or appearence. The original releases of A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun were Blu-ray only releases by Animatsu Entertainment and came packaged in chipboard artbox sleeve that the regular Blu-ray case slides in to and it was expected that their second seasons would follow in a similar pattern.

But alas that’s not going to happen. As illustrated in the pictures, and mentioned above, these Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack releases of A Certain Magical Index II and A Certain Scientific Railgun S will feature two DVD sized cases per set with each case holding a different format. Additionally these two cases (per set) will slide into the carded sleeve, the same style used for recent re-releases such as Death Note, Blue Exorcist and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood rather than a chipboard artbox such as recent Animatsu releases like Amagi Brilliant Park and School-Live! It’s also worth noting that the sleeves in each DVD Case will also be reversible with different artwork – each relating to a different story arc of each show – being available.

The obscure packaging choice isn’t the only (slight) disappointment either as for whatever reason MangaUK have opted to put DVD and Blu-ray banners at atop of each artwork sleeve – obviously this is to highlight which format the discs are but its still off-puting.

A Certain Magical Index II and A Certain Scientific Railgun S will be available as Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack releases from the 21st August 2017 within the UK.

Those DVD cases with printed banners look like garbage. Good work Manga.

    WTF Manga UK…

  3. Shane Baker says:

This is why I cry when I hear Manga UK have aquired any licenses. Their releases quite often have cheap, crappy slip covers, they will stop releasing formats mid series like the blu-ray Fairy Tail debacle. Still waiting for the final release of Hellsing Ultimate after purchasing the other blu-rays in the set. A sham of a company, glad Funimation decided to team up with a proper distributor like Anime Limited.
