Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is the next chapter into LEVEL-5’s JPRG adventure that mixtures gorgeous visuals with enriched deep story telling and we managed to sample a small portion of the game through the E3 Demo Build at a preview event in Bandai Namco Entertainment’s UK Headquarters (which is just as awesome as it sounds!).
For those unaware Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom puts players in contorl of King Evan who after being banished from the kingdom of Ding Dong Dell ventures on a quest with new found friends to create his own kingdom filled with peace and harmony. Through this journey of self-discovery King Evan will overcome trials, defeat monsters and do everything in his power to protect the people who follow him.
This E3 Demo Build we managed to play provides two different areas of the game to explore; known as Longfan: Lord of Flame and The Trial of Courage. Each segment lasts around fifteen minutes and focuses on a slightly different gameplay aspect of the game. Longfan: Lord of Flame for instance focuses entirely on a boss battle where as The Trial of Courage sees you control Evan and his friends through a trial that will aid his overall quest.
Truth be told it did not matter which portion of the demo we chose as the gameplay experience was the same – although The Trial of Courage does offer a wider look at how characters move within the game world and interacting with other characters. In regards to gameplay then combat is done through real-time-action, much like the first game, and will see the player able to preform basic, heavy and magic attacks.
Additionally little creatures (forgive me i’ve forgotten their names) will appear during a battle and Evan can conduct these little creatures to join them in his quest to defeat the monster. These little creatures can help the battle by restoring HP, MP and defending from enemy attacks. It’s a unique twist to the standard Action-JPRG experience and it works exceptionally well.
As per the first game the story moves forward through in-game cutscenes as well as dialogue on screen during gameplay; all of which has been dubbed into English and provides that immerise action you would come to expect from an enriched story such as this.
Basically we loved what we saw of Ni No Kuni II: The Revenant Kingdom and while I haven’t got into depth about my experience with the game you can see it for yourself with our gameplay videos.
—-NOTE—-
Due to a technicall issue the original audio for the videos below were not recorded; so instead the missing audio has been replaced with sound bites from the Ni No Kuni Soundtrack.

Ni No Kuni: Revenant Kingdom will be released onto the PS4 and PC early next year but in the meantime we can expect Bandai Namco Entertainment to reveal further details about the game in the coming months leading up to its release.
