Dragon Ball FighterZ Announced for PC, XB1 & PS4 Release Early Next Year

One of the biggest surprises during yesterday’s Xbox E3 Media Briefing was the ‘official’ unveiling of Dragon Ball FighterZ, a brand new sprite-based fighting game in development at Arc System Works, that will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment later next year. During the Xbox Media Briefing it was unclear as to what exactly this game will contain; but now Bandai Namco Entertainment have revealed some new details about the game.

To start with Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released onto the PC, Xbox One and PS4 early next year with the game featuring 3 vs 3 combat mechanics where, just like in Marvel Vs Capcom, players will be able to switch between characters during fights as well as preform team attacks using their iconic move-sets. That’s not all either; as just like Guilty Gear Revelator, which is another fighting game developed by Arc System Works, the game will blend 2D Sprites with 2.5D anime-styled cell-shaded character models to create a ‘realistic’ anime styled fighting game that blurs the line between anime and games.

An example of this can be seen in the gameplay demonstration released earlier today.

Although not mentioned the gameplay demonstration highlights that players will be able to briefly power-up during each battle. For instance Frieza manages to transform into this Golden form while Goku manages to upgrade to Super Saiyan 3 status – both of which last for a limited period of time (presumably until their KI runs out just like in Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3).

In any event; Dragon Ball FighterZ is shaping up to be ‘the’ best Dragon Ball experience even though we don’t actually know what the game will contain. Dragon Ball FighterZ will be available for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 early next year and we can expect more details in the near future.
