Several months ago MVM Entertainment announced that they would be releasing the original Tenchi Muyo OVA series, which consists of thirteen episodes, on to Blu-ray and this weekend the UK Anime Distributor announced on social media that they plan to release the series as a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack on the 10th July 2017.

MVM Entertainment had previously released the OVA series on DVD, and also released it as a Complete Series Collection with the Mihoshi Space Special, but this Blu-ray re-release of the series will be remastered in 1080p High Definition – as previously released by FUNimation in America – as well as improved audio and on disc bonus materials.
Reports on UK Anime Network also suggest that MVM Entertainment plan to release this Collector’s Edition with the Mihoshi Special on DVD and that MVM Entertainment are also working to include the Tenchi Database DVD which was originally bundled with the Tench Muyo movie collection box set several years ago. This database DVD featured in-depth information about the OVA Series as well as promotional and production assets from both the Series and Movies. Of course these details have yet to be confirmed; but it would make for an interesting collection.
In any event; MVM Entertainment plan to release the Tenchi Muyo Blu-ray collection on the 10th July 2017 with pre-orders now available through their website.
Do you know if the Collector’s Edition will have the 3rd OVA? Because the U.S. version said “Complete OVA Series” but only had the first two OVAs…
No it will not; it will contain the same episode content as the previous DVD releases (Tenchi Muyo OVA Series Volume 1, 2 3 and Complete Collection) and the same episodic content as the US release; which is around 13/14 episodes.
The third OVA series you speak of is known as Tenchi Muyo: Ryo Ohki and despite being classed as a continuation of the original OVA series (and in some aspects part of the same series) it has never been included in a complete collection (or intended to be) with the original OVA series.
A late update (Been looking for information on the blu-ray quality for this) but it looks like there will be separate blu-ray and dvd releases later in the year.
