Anime Limited Cancel’s Selector Infected WIXOSS DVD Release

In some rather disappointing news Anime Limited have today announced on their blog that the upcoming DVD release of Selector Infected WIXOSS has been cancelled with the series now being released only as a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release.

Originally Anime Limited were going to release Selector Infected WIXOSS as both a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and Standard Edition DVD; however due to “circumstances beyond our control” the DVD release has been cancelled and will now be released solely on Blu-ray.

Regarding our upcoming release of Selector Infected WIXOSS on 15th May, we want to inform you that unfortunately due to licensor restrictions we are no longer able to release this title on DVD. We appreciate it’s been a very long wait for all WIXOSS fans and we know those of you who will have been waiting for the DVD release will be disappointed by this. Unfortunately it’s a set of circumstances that are beyond our control.

Although it’s not mentioned in the blog post it’s possible that the Japanese licensor wanted a PAL format DVD release of Selector Infected WIXOSS; an option which would not only cost money to produce (as Anime Limited would have to produce their own discs as opposed to piggy-backing off American distributors) but would present a lower quality product when compared to the far superior NTSC format.

It’s not often that Anime Limited cancel a release, with Rainy Cocoa being an exception due to poor pre-order numbers, but Anime Limited – via FUNimation UK – have turned Combo Pack releases into stand-a-lone Blu-rays for the seasm reason of PAL enforced discs.

So there we have it; if you were hoping for Selector Infected WIXOSS on DVD then unfortunately you’ll have to import the American release of the series or purchase the ‘even better’ Blu-ray release of the series.
