FUNimation UK’S Release of No-Rin Demoted to Blu-ray Only

Earlier in the year Anime Limited, on behalf of FUNimation UK, announced that the Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack release of No-Rin would receive PAL DVD Masters as requested by the Japanese licensor. Well today, as part of a new update on the Anime Limited blog, the distributor have revealed that the series will now be released as a ‘Blu-ray only’ release.

The reason for this ‘removal’ hasn’t really been explained; but its a choice that (according to the blog post at least) came with much discussions. Personally I believe Anime Limited opted to remove the PAL discs in response to criticism from fans but it’s also possible that ‘added authoring costs’ would have played a vital role in the removal of the DVD format.

We want to make you aware of a change to the upcoming release of No-Rin. You may recall this was set to be a Blu-ray+DVD combi set but at the request of the licensor, a change was needed whereby PAL DVDs would be included. After much discussion and deliberation internally on this it has been decided to make No-Rin a Blu-ray only release. We should have more details to share about this in the New Year but we wanted to make note of this now.

In any event; No-Rin will now be released as a ‘Blu-ray only’ release within the UK and, as explained by Anime Limited, product listings on various retailers are expected to update shortly. Seeing as No-Rin will be released as a ‘standard’ Blu-ray it will interesting to compare prices with other distributors.
