After what seems like an enternity, which actually turns out to be around three years, Anime Limited have finaly begun teasing new details surrounding their Blu-ray release of the Makoto Shinkai Twin-Pack that features both Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in the Early Days films within a single set.
Initally the only information that had been confirmed was that Anime Limited would release the films within a single set on Blu-ray; but today the distributor have spoken out on social media to reveal that the set will be released as a Collector’s Edition release and more importantly feature both DVD and Blu-ray variations of the film and a booklet filled with information and artwork from the two films. In addition to this information the distributor went on to reveal the packaging which, as illustrated in the packshot below, will see two amaray styled cases slot inside a chipboard box.
Interestingly enough Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in the Early Days will each have their own DVD disc, with each disc featuring the film in both English & Japanese along with a selection of bonus materials; but when it comes to the Blu-ray release then both films – along with the bonus materials found on DVD – will be authored onto a single disc. It’s unclear why Anime Limited have gone down this route, as personally I would prefer two Blu-ray and two DVD discs, but it’s the option they have chosen.
In any event this Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack release of the Makoto Shinkai Twin Pack is currently scheduled for release on the 21st November 2016 and we can expect that Anime Limited will confirm more details about this release in the coming weeks.
