Although we cover American products, in terms of physical unboxings and region checks, we hardly ever provide news on the latest licenses by american distributors; however today’s news is a bit special as the American Anime Distributor Sentai Filmworks, who as you may know occasionally sub-license shows to the UK, have announced that they have licensed the Girls Und Panzer film for both the UK and America as well as Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.

HOUSTON, September 27, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks, a leading independent distributor of Japanese anime and pop culture programming, announced today that they have acquired extensive distribution rights to the highly acclaimed, record-breaking Japanese anime film, Girls und Panzer der Film, for North America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and other territories. Sentai Filmworks will release additional information on Girls und Panzer der Film shortly, including distribution, release date, and streaming offerings.

You can read the original press release in full on the Sentai Filmworks website.

It’s not entirely clear what Sentai Filmworks plans to do with this ‘UK liencse’ but it should mean that the film, which continues the storyline laid out from the previous TV and OVA Series, should receive a release in the UK at some point in the near future.

It’s worth mentioning that MVM Entertainment have sub-licensed the anime franchise, and released both the TV Series and OVA Collection on Blu-ray and DVD within the UK, from Sentai Filmworks in America so one would suspect that it will be MVM Entertainment who handles the UK aspect of this license from Sentai Filmworks but at the time of writing this is just speculaiton.

In any event it seems that the Girls und Panzer film will be making its way to the UK, in home video form, at some point in the near future; but for the time being at least we will just have to wait for further details to be announced.
