Anime Limited to Release Outlaw Star on Blu-ray within the UK

Anime Limited have today announced, via a panel at this weekends MCM Scotland Comic Con, that they will be releasing the cult anime classic Outlaw Star onto Blu-ray later this year as a Limited Collector’s Edition release.

Anime Limited had previously released a re-mastered version of Outlaw Star onto DVD back in 2014 (in fact it was one of the distributor’s first anime titles); however with the release of High Definition Blu-ray masters in Japan the distributor have opted to go back and re-release the series on Blu-ray. According to an announcement on the Anime Limited blog the distributor hopes to release this Blu-ray variation of Outlaw Star by the end of this year and interestingly enough this set will feature the same assets as those used in Japan (unlike Gurren Lagann which had some technical issues attached to it).

So; what exactly will this Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release contain? Well it will feature the complete series, which consists of twenty-six episodes spread across four Blu-ray discs, in both English and Japanese audio as well as on-disc bonus features including Character Design Galleries, Mechanical Design Galleries, Character Color Setting Gallery, TV Commercials, the pilot film and creditless opening and closing sequences.

In terms of packaging then, as illustratred below, this Collector’s Edition set will come in a chipboard artbox with a digipack sleeve holding the discs and a 100-page “Building a Universe” art book that features Line Arts, Image Boards and Mecha & Props that slides alongside the digpack packaging into the chipboard artbox.

Anime Limited have currently not mentioned an Suggested Retail Price but they have said that online retailers will be listing the product for pre-order within the coming weeks. For the time being though this Collector’s Edition release of Outlaw Star is expected to be released on the 5th December 2016.
