In a rather surprising announcement The Pokemon Company have today unveiled Pokemon Generations; a brand new anime series which will take viewers ‘through the generations’ of the Pokemon games and explore previously untold stories from popular characters and events from within the franchise… or so the Youtube Description explains.
The new animated series Pokémon Generations revisits each generation of the Pokémon video game series to shed new light on some timeless moments. From the earliest days in the Kanto region to the splendor of the Kalos region, go behind the scenes and witness Pokémon history with new eyes!
Unlike the currently airing Pokemon TV series, which sees the never-ending adventures of Ash Ketchum travelling across the globe in a bid to become a Pokemon Master, Pokemon Generations will offer bite-sized chunks of storytelling with each episode lasting around five minutes along; Additionally each episode is expected to be an indepentent story with a new set of characters.
Although it is exciting to see The Pokemon Company create a new anime series aimed at replicating the video games, which of course the previously released 4-PART OVA Series Pokemon Origins managed to achieve, it is a shame that it is being done in such small chunks. Realisticly a 13 episode (or maybe longer) anime series would’ve been better accepted from the Pokemon (and anime) Community; but in any event it’s nice to see The Pokemon Company listening to fans and bringing back the animation style and storytelling that was seen in Pokemon Origins.
The first episode of Pokemon Generations is scheduled to be broadcast on the official Pokemon Youtube Channel from the 16th September 2016 with new episodes expected to appear each week; in the meantime however you can check out the announcement trailer below.
