Unboxing: Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Collectors Edition Combo Pack)

Wings of Honneamise, otherwise known as Royal Space Force, is a feature-length anime film with a rather checkered past when it comes to the UK Anime scene; partly because its original release was edited slightly and partly because that edited scene was an attempted rape which felt out-of-place for the character and this particular movie. In any event Anime Limited released it uncut and as Collectors Edition Blu-ray release and today we will be giving it a look.

To start with unlike most Anime Limited releases, which tend to go for a rigid chipbaord artbox, Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise is a digipack styled carded sleeve design. The result is something different to the norm and makes this set feel slightly different to others. If you have had the Limited Edition version of Patema Inverted then you’ll have a rough idea of what im referring to. Unfortunately however this design does have mistakes; first of all it can easily become damaged – if not ripped – over time and in regards to this release errors can be spotted on the text with the carded sleeve calling this set a Collectors Edition while the thicker carded sleeve holding the digipack claiming its a Limited Edition set.

Ignoring this obvious fault for the time being once we unfold the digipack design we are treated to a selection of artwork and designs inspired from the film as well as two discs and a booklet containing information from the film. The discs themselves are Blu-ray and DVD and some slightly differences can be seen so that owners know which disc is what format. Personally i wasn’t a fan of the film but i do like what this set offers; especially in the booklet which offers that ‘old-style-paper’ feel rather than the feel of a traditional booklet/manual. It’s different, its unique and it brings the best out of this set.

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Collectors Edition Combo Pack) is now available within the UK via Anime Limited.
