FUNimation’s UK DVD Release of Rainy Cocoa Delayed Indefinitely

Anime Limited have today announced in their latest podcast that FUNimation’s UK DVD release of Rainy Cocoa will be removed from sale ‘temporarily’ while the distributor (Anime Limited) discusses the best course of action to take with the release.

As Andrew Partridge explains in the latest podcast Rainy Cocoa is an English subtitle-only DVD release originally authored by FUNimation and after several weeks on sale only a handful of pre-orders have been received (two in fact); so now the distributor, which is Anime Limited, are removing the title from sale and are delaying it indefinitely.

So what happens now? Well Anime Limited will now look into whether or not it’s worth releasing the series into the UK by valuing up its production costs (Disc authoring, BBFC costs etc) against the potential number of sales it could receive. If the cost of producing the series outweigh the number of expected sales then Anime Limited may cancel the release altogether.

Rainy Cocoa is a FUNimation title but it’s Anime Limited that are handling it’s production and distribution; which is exactly why the distributor have withdrawn it from sale for the time being. In any event it’s unlikely we will hear anything about Rainy Cocoa until Anime Limited have worked out what to do with it.
