The Boy and the Beast To Be Released on DVD and Blu-ray by Studiocanal

The Boy and His Beast

In a surprising turn of events Mamoru Hosoda’s charming tale ‘The Boy and the Beast’ may be receiving a UK release by STUDIOCANAL rather than other Anime Distributors such as MangaUK or Anime Limited; that is if the listing found on Amazon UK is anything to go by.

According to the product listing, which was posted-up on UK Anime Network yesterday, The Boy and the Beast will be released on the 5th September 2016 on both DVD and Blu-ray. If this listing, and release date, is correct then it means that The Boy and the Beast won’t be getting a cinematic release or, if it does, then it will be very limited to a handful of Picturehouse cinemas.

The latest feature film from award-winning Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children): When Kyuta, a young orphan living on the streets of Shibuya, stumbles into a fantastic world of beasts, he’s taken in by Kumatetsu, a gruff, rough-around-the-edges warrior beast who’s been searching for the perfect apprentice. Despite their constant bickering, Kyuta and Kumatetsu begin training together and slowly form a bond as surrogate father and son. But when a deep darkness threatens to throw the human and beast worlds into chaos, the strong bond between this unlikely family will be put to ultimate test—a final showdown that will only be won if the two can finally work together using all of their combined strength and courage.

Of course for the time being we are only speculating; but The Boy and the Beast does have an English Dubbed produced by FUNimation Entertainment, as seen in the trailer below, so when it does get released in the UK it will feature both English and Japanese voice-over options.
