Animatsu Entertainment License ‘This Corner of the World’ for Global Distribution

This Corner of the World screen

When Animatsu Entertainment first burst open into the UK Distributor scene last year one of their goals was to become a worldwide distributor for numerous products; and today that goal is one step to reality as today the distributor have announced that they have licensed Sunao Katabuchi’s animated feature ‘This Corner of the World’ for global distribution.

This distribution license means that Animatsu Entertainment will be able to distribute the film freely across all countires excluding Japan and Asian countries. What’s quite interesting about this announcement, excluding the global distribution agreement of course, is that this film will not have it’s Japanese premiere until later this year and as such it may be awhile before we (in the UK) even get to see it.

This Corner of the World is an interesting license for Animatsu; but as Jerome Mazandarini explains it’s a film he is eager to bring to wider auidiences and share with the world:

“There have been previous anime films set around the devastation in Hiroshima, but none with the ultimately uplifting and positive message of In This Corner of the Worldso we can’t wait to bring this beautiful film to Annecy, We believe the rest of the world will share our enthusiasm for this story.”

So what exactly can one expect from this feature-length animated film? Well luckily enough this synopsis should provide an answer on what to expect:

In This Corner of the World tells the story of the adolescent Suzu, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage, however, underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country.

At the moment details on when to expect This Corner of the World within the UK/European sector remain a mystery; but we suspect that further details surrounding this license will be revealed in due course.
