When SEGA released the Japanese fighting game Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax onto the PS Vita and PS3 within the UK and Europe it was done so as a digital download; however over the pond our american friends received a phsyical release of the product that, if purchased during the launch window, also came with as a limited print-run Day 1 Edition. As a result of this ‘Collectors’ treat, and seeing as this game features characters from popular Manga (and anime) franchises i’ve decided to unbox it for your viewing pleasure.
For those unfamiliar Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a Japanese arcade fighting game featuring characters from the Dengeki Bunko manga publication and sees these chosen characters battle to the death. The gameplay is relatively simplistic and is extremely enjoyable, unlike BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. Characters from popular franchises such as Kirino from Oreimo, Misaka from A Certain Magical Index and Shana from Shakugan No Shana are all playable characters with unique abilities and such while support characters, such as Leafa from Sword Art Online, can be used to provide back-up. It’s a great game; so it’s a shame it did not receive the attention it deserved in the UK Market.
In any case; this Day 1 Edition of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax features the general PS Vita game case boxed alongside a soundtrack CD thats in a carded sleeve. The presentation is ‘acceptable’ with nice artwork on the front and back of the box; but its a shame the CD wasn’t even in a plastic case of sorts. Worse still the 6 tracks included in the disc have been ‘merged’ into a single track. On the inside of the PS Vita case SEGA have replicated the original Japanese manual which highlights all of the main characters and their main move-sets – but be warned some spoilers (unlockable characters) may be found on this sheet.
Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a great fighting game, especially on the PS Vita, and its a shame the UK market did not receive a retail release or something of this Day 1 Edition calibur; as it is a really nice set that looks great on the shelf. Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is now available for the PS Vita (and PS3) within the UK as a digital download from the Playstation Network Store; this Day One Edition however is only available from America and can potentially be hard to find due to the game being available since 2015 within the US.
