Unboxing: Devil Survivor 2: The Animation – The Complete Series (Blu-ray)

Back in October of last year MVM Entertainment released the anime adaptation of the dungeon-crawler-styled JPRG Game Devil Survivor 2 into the UK; and while the release offered mixed opinions – both in visual quality and storyline – it was a shame that the series never received a Blu-ray release; that is until last month.

On the 25th May 2015 MVM Entertainment, via their new partnership with Australian Anime Distributor Hanabee Entertainment, produced a Blu-ray version of the series and while it may be seven months behind its DVD-Counterpart it is proving popular among those who waited; and today i’ll be taking a closer look at it.

In terms of looks then the outer-packaging artwork is exactly the same as the previous DVD release; with the minor exception being the Blu-ray logos and slightly different technical aspect. The discs on the other-hand are pretty intense with a design style that mimics that of Kaze’s Bleach releases – they look fantastic but stare too long and you’ll easily become daze. Basically it’s a nice packaging, which isn’t something that happens often with MVM Releases as past packaging and disc artwork has been mediocre at best.

Packaging aside its the disc content that matters the most and if you were hoping for some ‘Blu-ray Exclusive’ content then unfortunately you are in for a disappointment. The visual quality of the series has been improved thanks to the High Definition master being used; but other than that there is nothing to really praise – with the only extra content being (once again) textless songs and trailers for other anime titles.

In short it’s another simplistic Blu-ray release by MVM Entertainment; but this time this “simplistic” approach actually works and its definately a Blu-ray worth considering – especially if you liked the franchise. Devil Survivor 2: The Animation is now available on DVD and Blu-ray within the UK.
