Unboxing: Space Dandy – Season 1 (Collectors Edition Blu-ray) [UK]

Whether you like it or find it completely bonkers Anime Limited’s Collectors Edition release of Space Dandy – Season 1 is truly something special; however dig-deeper and you’ll find a product thats riddle with disappointments but none-the-less we are going to take a look at it in our latest unboxing article.

So lets start at the beginning; before we even open the product the Blu-ray, and even DVD releases, are pretty-much bare with only Stereo audio and textless songs being included on the disc; i guess its safe to assume that the English Broadcast audio was used for this UK Home-video release as the more recent FUNimation, and potentially australian, releases feature the remixed 5.1 surround sound. Both versions also feature additional bonus content as well.

The second major negative comment for this release is the way that the manufacturers have put together the artbox; as the artbox on both sides of the case do not align properly and as a result artwork that shouldn’t be showing does. The biggest niggle is that after just a month of being opened (i tend to write these articles after i’ve unboxed them) the artwork is starting to peel off from one of the sides – and considering its hardly moved around (other than when i want to watch it) its a big concern.

Of course with disc-content and presentation issues Anime Limited have given us some splendid artwork, both on the artbox and plastic Blu-ray case, and more importantly given us an exclusive 200 page artbox featuring concept drawings, storyboards and other content for our eyes to feast over. In retrospect this IS the selling point; the book itself – as the rest of the set is pretty mediocre; but with the set now available at ‘half’ the price then its worth taking the plunge into space with a dandy guy.

Space Dandy – Season 1 is now available on DVD and Blu-ray as a Standard Edition and Collectors Edition release.
