Demonstration: Accessing Hidden Bonus Content on the UK Blu-ray of Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa

Manga Entertainment’s UK Blu-ray release of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie – The Conqueror of Shamballa may be an old release but it still throws up some interesting surprises if you decide to go looking for them; case and point additional bonus content can be accessed by using the ‘Title Search’ method; a method which is usually reserved for Sentai Filmwork releases.

I first stumbled across this ‘bonus content’ when i reviewed the film several years ago; however as i didn’t have access to the retail disc i decided to wait. Ultimately i waited so long that i forgot about it until last year; which is when i recorded the video (shown at the bottem of the page); but anyway lets continue.

The additional content in question is a variety of FUNimation trailers; trailers that were featured on the original US Release of this film and as such its safe to assume that the UK Blu-ray release is a replica of the US version; albeit with the menu slightly altered so that these trailers could not be accessed. I guess the ‘removable’ of a single word was too dificult to handle as future Blu-ray releases, such as Fairy Tail and Jormungand, left all american content intact.

By accessing this content, which is achieved by doing the title search method, you’ll be able to view a selection of FUNimation trailers; with trailers including Evangelion 1.01, Dragon Ball Z – Dragon Box and Bamboo Blade.

How to perform the title search method:

  1. Insert the Blu-ray disc into your Blu-ray player / console
  2. Once the disc loads up select the “Go To / Title” option (it differs from player to player)
  3. Choose a title between 5 and 10 and then press OK / Play / X button
  4. A trailer related to that title number will appear
  5. Press the pop-up menu to view the overlay menu and choose items as you desire
  6. Once the trailer ends you’ll be taken back to where you last were

The list of additional bonus content may not be worth the hassle; but its a selection of content that can not be accessed from the main menu by usual means – additionally it allows anime fans to view trailers for older shows that they may have not noticed/heard of; eitherway you can see some of the trailers for yourself in our video that demonstrates the process.
