Can you believe that it’s been well over half a year since the previous instalment of Bleach was released into the UK anime market; Me neither, but here we finally are with Bleach – Series 14 Part 2; the latest joint-release from Manga Entertainment and Kaze and it’s a set that i’ll be taking a closer look at today so you guys will know what you can expect from it.
Containing thirteen episodes, and spread across three DVD Discs, Bleach – Series 14 Part 2 brings the Fall of the Arrancar story arc to it’s conclusion with a mixture of ‘manga-adaptated’ storylines and filler episodes. For the most this set can be seperated into two halves; the first half (Episodes 304 to 309) interact with the main story of the Soul Reapers attempting to stop Aizen – which results in a final destructive battle between; while the remainder of this set (Episodes 310 to 316) focus on other elements of the Bleach Universe; such as the introductions of new captains, friends long forgotten and amusing side-stories that involve everyones favourite Kon.
A large portion of filler episodes may seem like a disappointment; but with the main story content being neatly wrapped-up by the half-way-point of this set its a nice way to ‘come-down’ after all those explosive battles. Additionally it allows for other, less dominant on-screen characters, to make their re-appearence in the show – which is always a nice thing to see.
When it comes to episode content then Bleach – Series 14 Part 2 has a nice variety on offer, even more so than recent One Piece and Fairy Tail sets, but in terms of bonus content and disc presentation then it is a bit of a woeful experience. The only bonus features on offer included are textless songs – some of which have karaoke text on them so you can hardly call it ‘textless. Of course this being a KAZE title viewers are treated to two trailers per disc before the main menu loads-up; with each trailer already being ‘widely used’ on other Kaze products.
In short the UK Kaze / Manga Entertainment DVD release of Bleach – Series 14 Part 2 is probably just as you’d expect it to be; with the presentation and layout being exactly the same as previous instalments – with the only difference being the artwork and episode content. Of course this isn’t a bad release; its just as you’d expect it to be.
Bleach – Series 14 Part 2 will be available on DVD within the UK from the 6th April 2015.
