Unboxing: K-On! – Volume 1 (Limited Edition Collectors Box Blu-ray) [AUS]

Ever since K-On! made it’s debut appearence within the UK fans of the show have constantly asked for a Blu-ray release of it; fast foward several years and while the movie received a Blu-ray the series still remains absent; fortunately for us there are other alternatives. There is of course the American (Region Locked) Sentai Filmworks release or more appropiately the Australian (Region B) Madman Entertainment release and today i’ll be taking a look at the latter, or more accurately K-On! – Volume 1 (Limited Edition Artbox Blu-ray).
As you may have guessed this Limited Edition version of K-On! Volume 1 features the standard Blu-ray release (which can be purchased on its own) along with a chipboard artbox that can fit all four volumes inside. If you’ve seen our Australian Unboxing of Sword Art Online then you’ll have a rough idea of what to expect; either way the chipboard artbox is very pretty (and pink), features a nice variety of artbox on both sides and more importantly it rivals the chipboard artboxes released in America by FUNimation.
K-On! – Volume 1 via Madman Entertainment is, in retrospect, exactly the same as it’s UK DVD Counterpart; a collection of four episodes with dual-language options (English and Japanese) and the same type of extra materials. While the physical contents, and outer appearence, are the same it’s the HD-Native picture quality, and inside artwork, that makes this release stand-out from ours.
Another ‘attention-grabber’ is the price; as at the time of writing this Limited Edition Artbox version, and the three remaining volumes of Season 1, can be picked-up for £5 each – and with postage (from Australia) comes to around £10 per volume (at max). All-in-all K-On! – Volume 1 (Limited Edition Artbox Blu-ray) is the same as our UK DVD release, just in HD and inside a fancy box, so if you’re not fussed about the HD-Upgrade you may as well stick with our UK DVD Release.
Please would you detail which exact website you purchased this boxset from? Every Australian anime website I search for sells this product for at least twice the price you stated 😦
Well thats amusing; seeing as the Australian retailers i found were selling it for 9.95 AUD (along with Volume 2,3 and 4).
Anyway you can order it directly from Madman Entertainment’s Store -> http://www.madman.com.au/catalogue/view/15120/kon-vol-01-w-limited-collector-s-box-bluray or Choas (which is where I got mine from) -> http://www.chaos.com/blu-ray/k-on-volume-1-limited-collectors-box-blu-ray/dp/12317153
Madman Entertainment currently have the item(s) in stock; however Choas has to order them from their supplier; but unlike Zavvi it doesn’t take that long (mine took two weeks to arrive).
You can also find them on eBay UK (from Australian retailers) for around the same price.
