If you are still undecided about MVM Entertainment’s latest Blu-ray release, Accel World – Part 1, then fear not as today we will be taking a little look at what it has to offer in our unboxing video of the ‘retail’ product.

Released on the 9th June 2014, alongside the DVD Version, Accel World – Part 1 features the first tweleve episodes that sees reality mixed with a virtual world, as players compete in a brutal online fighting game to retain their new found abilities. Since we’ve already reviewed the set (on DVD) i won’t go into too much detail, but we highly enjoyed it and as such this High Definition release comes highly recomended.

In terms of the Blu-ray release by MVM Entertainment then plenty of surprises are in-store, as for once not only is the outer-packaging actually pretty decent, especially compared to MVM’s previous packaging designs, but it attempts to be different by providing the episode listing on the back.

Disappointingly no extra features are listed on the back of the box, a similar issue was on the Australian release, however upon closer inspection the second Blu-ray disc does contain some extras in the form of trailers and textless songs. Neither of them are listed on the back of the box, but once you started watching the disc the option appears on the main menu.

The positives continue with the disc artwork and visual quality of the series, both of which are ‘top-notch’ and just as you’d expect from a Blu-ray release, however unlike Manga UK & FUNimation Entertainment there isn’t any ‘inside artwork’ on the Blu-ray sleeve, instead it’s plain white. Of course this cuts ‘overall production costs’ (especially since MVM Entertainment are sharing Blu-ray costs with Hanabee) but it does make it look a tad basic on the inside, especially when the outside (and disc artwork) are nice.

Overall this ‘retail’ Blu-ray product of Accel World – Part 1 is just what you’d expect it to be, a visually stunning and entertaining collection of episodes packed onto two blu-ray discs inside a simple, but effective, amaray presentation. Accel World – Part 1 is now available on Blu-ray and DVD, with Part 2 due out during July.
