When FUNimation released Psycho Pass onto Blu-ray and DVD within America two different versions of the series were available, a limited edition premium set which contained the complete series with a variety of phsyical bonus content, and two half-season sets. Well today i’ll be taking a look at one of those ‘half-season’ sets, namely Psycho Pass Series 1 Part 1.
To start off with the series is completely region free, with both the DVD Discs and Blu-ray Discs being compatible within the UK, America, Australia and Europe, however Manga Entertainment UK will be releasing this set (Series 1 Part 1) during July as an individual Blu-ray and DVD.
When it comes to this set there is nothing really ‘special’ or ‘unique’ as it features the FUNimation started of Blu-ray sized case with carded sleeve and four discs, two Blu-ray and two DVD. In terms of content there isnt much to speak of either as apart from the episodic content (11 episodes) the only noteworthy extra feature is ‘Psycho Pass at Sakura Con’ which is a look at the shows reception when it went to Sakura Con.
What is quite amusing is that since Psycho Pass has a ‘minimalistic’ feel to the packaging, the disc artwork blends quite nicely. Usually i’d complain saying the artwork is terrible, as FUNimation have decided to used basic colouring as opposed to detailed artwork, however this ‘basic’ colouring seems to add to the overall presentation, even if only the series logo and disc number is presented.
Psycho Pass – Series 1 Part 1 is basically what you’d expect it to be, FUNimations industry standard of blu-ray case and carded sleeve with minimalistic artwork, but thats why it’s called the ‘standard’ version. Psycho Pass – Series 1 Part 1 (along with Series 1 Part 2) is now available within America, however a UK release by Manga Entertainment UK is coming during July (Part 1) and September (Part 2).
Watch this asap, its very good, anime these days should have more “cyber punk” stuff like this! cant wait for second season! I will be buying Manga UK version though just for the support.
