Earlier today Jerome from Manga Entertainment UK went to twitter to seek advice regarding a possible change in Blu-ray, maybe even DVD, packaing design as some new options have become available when it comes to distributing titles.

As you already know most Movie / TV Distributors use standard amaray DVD and Blu-ray cases, with the only variety being it’s colour and thickness, well recently some movie companies, such as Universals release of Obilivion, have started using the futuristic styled FR4ME cases. They are plasic cases which, if distributed effectively, can be a new stylish way of releasing titles and that’s actually what Jerome from Manga Entertainment is considering.

As illustrated in the discussion above Jerome is considering releasing future Blu-ray titles in this new FR4ME packaging design, additionally the titles will include a selection of artcards that can be replaced with the main artwork. So to put it bluntly if you do not like the approved artwork, then you can change it for something else. As always this is just an idea, but Jerome is currently open to ideas and suggestions from consumers regarding this packaging layout.

As it stands all future DVD and Blu-ray titles will be released in normal DVD and Blu-ray packaging, it’s just something different (and unique) that Manga Entertainment UK are considering. For me i’m not too fond of the FR4ME packaging, however if MangaUK can do what they are thinking then special edition releases may become ‘extra’ special.
