Demonstration: Using the Title Search Method on Sentai Region Locked Titles

As many of you may already be aware the original idea for this blog/site was to provide a list of Anime Blu-ray titles that work perfectly fine on UK Blu-ray players and consoles, however in the past few weeks I’ve had several people ask me about the infamous title search method, a method which allows a variety of Sentai produced Region locked titles to work on UK Blu-ray players. Well today I will explain what it is and show you how to do it.
First of all the Title Search Method is way of playing most Region Locked Sentai Filmworks (Section23) titles on a UK Blu-ray player, as it bypasses the region lock screen and plays part of the actual video content. The downside is that you can not access the main menu (only the pop-up menu works) and if a video ends it will most likely revert to the disc menu, which in turn makes the region lock screen appear. This option also requires some ‘technical’ know-how as not only must you press the correct buttons on your Blu-ray player remote but you only have 10 seconds to pull it off before the disc stops playing.
Because of these ‘draw-backs’ I have never really considered it as a region free option, as 99% of the listings on this site (excluding Nura & Needless) all work fine without any input from the user. Anyway now that the back story is out of the way here is how to perform it.
How to perform the title search method:
- Insert the Blu-ray disc into your Blu-ray player / console
- Once the Region lock screen appears select the “Go To / Title” option (it differs from player to player)
- Choose title 5 (sometimes 4) and press OK / Play / X button
- The first episode (if a series) will start playing in it’s default audio language
- Press the pop-up menu to view the overlay menu and choose items as you desire
Each time you want to watch the Blu-ray you will have to perform this task, and once you know how to do it it can be quite easy. Furthermore not all Blu-ray players have the option to navigate the title options and secondly some titles have their “search title” options locked out – such as FUNimation authored Blu-ray discs, but as it stands a large variety of sentai produced titles do allow the title search method to be used.
Either way that is the Title Search Method in a nutshell and if you are still a bit confused on how to do it then why not check out the video below which demonstrates how to do it with the High School of the Dead OVA Disc.
Thanks for this. I have a Region A PS3 for my region locked imports, but I like to use it as little as possible. I tried the Sentai Penguindrum discs and they worked perfectly on my UK Sony BD player, using this method.
