Quick Look: Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Season 2 Part 1

It’s time to take a quick look at Kaze’s latest DVD Release for Nura: Rise of the Yokai – Season 2 Part 1 and since there isn’t much to show there isn’t a video this time.

Introducing Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Demon Capital – Part 1, or more commonly referred to as Season 2 Part 1, a DVD release by Kaze Entertainment that contains 13 episodes of the second season across three DVD Discs and while it’s been a year since we looked at Season 1 Part 1, not a lot has changed.

The series continues to follow the daily activities of Rikou Nura and his attempts to become head of the Nura clan, however just like with the first season he is met with opposition. While Rikou Nura is part of the series ‘main focus’ there is also a fair amount of backstory to be told, especially within this first half of the series, as not only do we get a look into Rikou’s past but we also get some more history lessons surrounding the Nura clan, such as the previous Yokai battles they have been involved in. Season 2 Part 1 offers variety, as we have some backstory episodes, action packed episodes and plenty of Yokai filled entertainment, but it does have a slight deja vu feel.

Episodic content aside the overall presentation remains consistent with the previous insalments, as each DVD Disc contains (on average) four episodes with no additional features. The only extras are trailers for two other Kaze releases, both of which are already available on DVD.  The same can be said for the DVD Menu and it’s inclusion of Audio and Subtitle options, with both English & Japanese audio tracks available for selection (along with the episode listing) direct on the main menu. It’s another bare-bones release from Kaze, but at least the overall visual quality is better than most kaze releases.

If you are looking for a Shonen Styled series then Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Season 2 Part 1 fits the bill, but to understand whats going off you’ll need to see Season 1 beforehand. In regards to this DVD release there really isn’t anything interesting on offer, its just a selection of episodes on a DVD disc with a midly entertaining story to share.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Season 2 Part 1 will be available on DVD from the 10th March 2014.
