Unboxing: Strike Witches – Season 1 (Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack) [USA]

File this under ‘extremely late’ but after hearing conflicting reports of the US Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack of Strike Witches being Region Free (after initial reports of it being Region Locked) I decided to pick it up and test it for myself, but before that lets unbox it.

This Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack of Strike Witches features all 12 Episodes of Season 1 over 2 Blu-ray Discs and 2 DVD Discs, in addition to the episodes there is an Episode 12 English Cast Commentary, Textless Opening and Closing Songs as well as a variety of trailers for other FUNimation releases – most of which are DVD Only releases. Since this release of Strike Witches is a SD (Standard Definition) Remaster and not a dedicated HD (High Definition) release the picture quality isn’t as great as other Blu-rays, however the quality is still far superior to that of the standard DVD.

In terms of the Region, Strike Witches is indeed Region Free, with the Blu-ray being compatible with UK Blu-ray Players and Playstation 3 consoles, however the DVD themselves are only Region 1, thus they will only play on Region 1 or Multi-regional DVD players.
